Red light therapy, known clinically as photobiomodulation, or PBM — uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to stimulate the way your cells produce energy. Unlike sunlight, there is no UV. Unlike a laser, there is no heat or pain. The light passes through skin and is absorbed by your mitochondria, the parts of your cells responsible for making energy.

When mitochondria absorb this light, they produce more ATP, the molecule your body uses for everything from muscle recovery to mental focus. The effects are not cosmetic. They are biological.

VIRYA uses a full-body LS Pro bed delivering both 660 nm red light (for skin and surface tissue) and 850 nm near-infrared light (for deeper muscle, joint, and circulatory benefit). Each session is 20 minutes, with no recovery time afterwards.

Most clients feel a gentle warmth from the bed and a sense of calm. The light itself produces no heat sensation at the recommended distance and is completely painless. Many people use the 20 minutes as a quiet meditation.
It depends on the goal. Recovery and energy benefits are often felt after 2–4 sessions. Skin, collagen, and joint improvements typically need 8–20 sessions to show clearly, with cumulative benefit thereafter. We'll help you build a plan around your goal.
Yes — red light therapy has an exceptional safety profile. Across hundreds of clinical trials covering thousands of participants, no serious adverse events have been reported at therapeutic doses. The most important precaution is wearing the protective eyewear we provide.
Yes. Red light therapy combines well with our other treatments — particularly hyperbaric oxygen therapy, where the two work synergistically on cellular energy and recovery.
The more skin exposed, the more effective the therapy — light cannot pass through clothing. Most clients wear underwear or swimwear. We provide robes and a private room. You undress to whatever level you're comfortable with.
Avoid sunscreen, heavy lotions, and makeup on areas being treated — they can block the light. Otherwise, you can eat normally and continue your day as planned.
Standard sessions at VIRYA are self-pay. However, through our medical pathway with Dr Valerie, you can access a consultation and treatment plan that may be eligible for partial reimbursement under your Swiss complémentaire insurance.
We do not recommend red light therapy during pregnancy as there is insufficient safety data in pregnant populations. We're happy to discuss alternatives.
There is moderate-certainty evidence that red light therapy increases hair density in androgenetic alopecia, particularly using laser-diode-based devices. Our full-body bed is not specifically designed for scalp treatment — for hair loss, dedicated scalp protocols are usually more effective. Talk to us and we'll point you in the right direction.
Yes — this is one of the most common reasons clients in Verbier book sessions. Pre-exercise and post-exercise PBM has been shown in multiple studies to reduce delayed-onset muscle soreness and accelerate strength recovery. A session before or after a heavy ski day is one of the highest-value uses.
